Ben Higgins Large Round Basket
Ben Higgins basket 10.5″ diameter. Chesterfiled, MA. Mint. C 1940. Ben Higgins, born in Chesterfield, MA, in 1894, learned to make pounded white ash baskets from his father. He made his first basket at age five, and continued his work until his death in 1981. Some indications of a Higgins basket include: All Higgins baskets were made from pounded Ash. The rims on his baskets are made from four pieces, two for the outside and two for the inside. The tell-tale signature of Higgins’ rims is the triangular tips and three nails.
