Early 19th Century Paint Decorated PA Chest
Early 19th Century painted blanket chest features ornate bracket feet with scrolling detail. Beautiful black over red painted original, heavily oxidized surface, the whole executed very skillfully to imitate mahogany veneer. Originating from the Southeastern counties of Pennsylvania ~ 1830-1840, this chest was crafted of poplar. Molded edge of lid and molding above bracket feet are affixed with wooden pegs around the perimeter. Original iron hinges (retaining original hand filed screws) open to reveal a clean and large interior with lidded till on the left.
For anyone passionate about painted Pennsylvania antiques, this is an absolute treasure. Untouched and retaining originality in every aspect, this is an outstanding addition to both classically styled and modern interiors.
