Hearth Pie Lift
A rare New England hand made piece having two wrought iron tines, ~9″ long and a 21″ long maple handle. The blacksmith curved and hammered the ends of the tines to afford improved support for lifting pans. Fire/hand worn patina and incised rings on handle are rather special. Early 1800s. The role of the pie lift was to reach into the hot hearth and either turn or lift out pies cooked on the very hot hearth trivets. Excellent condition.
