19th Century PA Hanging Corner Cupboard

A truly one-of-a-kind hanging cupboard from southeastern Pennsylvania.  It boasts a dashing PA form and a sensational, vivid orange paint surface with bright yellow trim (along the virtuoso curved top, lining the front panel and along the fluted edges).

Early Red-Painted Cupboard

Pennsylvania, Circa 1850-70.  Coveted single door, chamfered panels, strudy construction, superior carpentry artistry (note chamfered interior panel, sizable dovetails), attractive overhanging top, great surface patina, square-head nails.  Replaced butt hinges.

A terrific, original painted rural piece.    36" wide, 55" tall, 17" deep.

Paint Decorated "Buttocks" Style Basket

Circa 1870-1910: This American antique buttocks basket from the late 19th century has great form, wonderful patina and lively green and red paint decoration. Small handmade nails, showing perfect age.  10" diameter at basket rim, 13" diameter at bottom; 6 1/2" tall from bottom to rim and 13" tall to top of fixed handle.

Early Red Painted Trencher

Great form and original paint surface make this early poplar dough trencher one of the finest examples of painted woodenware.  

Carved from a single board,  this NE or PA trencher has incised initials on bottom:  "EGS*B"   ~26" wide, 13" deep, 4" high.

Vermont Painted and Vinegar Decorated Dome Top Box

Attributed to Thomas Matteson, South Shaftsbury (see "American Painted Furniture 1660-1880 by Dean Fales, Jr., p 221).  With demilune fan decoration in brown and green on yellow ground.   28" wide X 12 1/2" deep X 11" tall.  Recent research, subsequent to Fales' publication, suggests that the Matteson family were engaged in the sale of such dome top boxes in this region.

19th Century Chalkware Parrots

These two parrots, - figures frequently featured in Pennsylvania Frakturs, are each perched on balls on a stand. Original green, yellow, red and sienna brown paint. Both are hollow cast and in very good condition with minor paint wear as expected from mid-19th century age and usage. 8 3/4 “ tall.
